I just bought a second hand Samyang 85, and it has the same focus ring noise issue

Last month I bought the Nikon version of this Samyang Lens. The problem I found is that blades don't fully close when stepping down the aperture ring. The minimum I can get is T5.6 or something like that. I don't know if it's a problem on the blades being too tight. I'm returning it this week

How much did you pay for the Len? That lens has give you more than it has to. Don't like it then stop buying from Samyang. Can't expect a $300 lens to perform like a $2000 lens.

I just received my samyang 35mm, it is supposed to be brand new, but it has the problem of the noisy focus ring. The noise is more audible from the mouth of the lens. I'll get this replaced

This song simply guts me. While I've listened numberless times to the entire lovely CD, this remains by a large margin my favourite of the five songs.

Karthik, this is a fully manual lens with no electronics at all so it will not work with Autofocus. I don't know the Nikon 5300 but if it has a live view mode and "peaking" or "magnification" options you may be able to display the image on the LCD screen and use peaking and magnification to help find focus. If not you will just have to practise finding focus through the viewfinder (make sure it is properly adjusted for your eye). If you are shooting video with it you should always try and use an external monitor otherwise focussing is nearly impossible. Because it is a manual lens you will also need to set your camera to aperture priority (A). That way if you set the aperture on the lens the camera will choose the correct shutter speed (and ISO). I'd suggest you read a bit on lens theory to understand the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, ISO (sensitivity), DoF (depth of field) and focussing. There are lots of tutorials on youtube too. Then you'll be able to make better use of this lens. However if you just want too be able to take good portrait shots easily you might be better off exchanging it for a lens with autofocus. Manual lenses require a bit of knowledge and patience to use correctly. They don't suit all uses. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the video! I own a similar variant of this lens for Nikon (though its named Rokinon). I see you have been using this for an year and I need your suggestions/explanation for my issues. Inlow light photography, I face problems in focussing itself, the focussing does not get locked at all - the focussing green light (Nikon variant has electronic element for showing the focus) remains blinking and never settles - it shows low light warning (I use Nikon D5300 and just an amateur)! I only have to adjust the aperture ring to the maximum for locking the focus. And again I have to bring down the aperture ring to minimum (by now the focus light starts blinking) to make sure the subject is in focus. This makes the process very tedious! mainly for Portraiture in lowlight. Also, the aperture is inconsistent for two different photo clicks with same settings (even in Automatic), that are shot immediately after one another.

Nicely done. You've got the song down to a tee - but S L O W down so the listener can have enough time to appreciate your efforts and skill in covering such a poignant song. It's a sad, melancholy piece and deserves a more sombre approach. But your sense of timing (as opposed to tempo) is spot-on, as is your voice. I admire your talents. Carol
